It has been nearly a year since I left Inverness College, and nearly four years since the college left the old campuses of Midmills and Longman.
The Midmills building, being an enlisted building, can't be changed too much. The newest part of the Midmills building, where the canteen and the drama department was, has been demolished and rebuilding into a block of flats. The main part of the building is now being used by Wasps Inverness Creative Academy, an art school. It is good that the Midmills building has got a new piece of life.
It is with a bit of sadness that I have say that the Longman building is being demolished. The first wing to go was the nursery, then the newest wing where the library was. Elsewhere, the roof over the sports hall has been removed. I bumped into one of the workers men when I was passing by and talked to him. I told him that I was a student and the only part I won't miss will be the staircase (he said that he knew the feeling). I asked about what will happen after the demolishing is done, but he only there to demolish the building as the Highland Council owns the land. A new courthouse is being built next door, so the worker did suggest the land could be converted into a carp park for the new courthouse. It is sad that the Longman building will be gone, but hopefully the land will, like the Midmills building will get a new piece of life.
So far, I have been looking to work, and I so far, there has been a few ideas that have caught my eye, and I have a voluntary job at the National Trust for Scotland, and hopefully it will give the experience of a working environment.
Wish us all the best of luck.
